The Challenges

As we continue building our bot, we face several challenges. They can be related to anything, like the meshing of gears or wobbly brackets, but we need to solve each one of them in order to have a flawless robot.

Before doing the actual building of the bot, we first decided to design it on Fusion. Designing it hardly took any time since we already had the design planned out in our heads, but where the main problem lied was in executing them physically. We faced a ton of complications while actually building the bot.

While there weren't any major complications while building our base, we faced challenges while building our collector mechanism. Our previous mechanism's 'basket' was made of acrylic sheets and then, unfortunately, the acrylic sheets were too heavy, so then we had to find a lighter substitute, which in turn ended up being a pink plastic basket sawed in half. It may sound outlandish but is in reality highly effective since plastic is light as well sturdy. Another problem we faced was the meshing of gears, but they could be solved easily by just moving them a little. We are currently working on our latching mechanism which is proving itself to be quite a bit of a challenge since the linear slide we are currently using is not that sturdy to actually lift up the whole bot.

It might sound like it is quite tedious and it indeed is, but if we do not face the mechanical issues, we'll not learn and have enough experience to become better every season. As Collin Powell once said, “Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence.”
